Plymouth State Overcomes Deficit
To Defeat Rhode Island College

            Danbury, CTóSecond-seeded Rhode Island College has been eliminated from the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Tournament, dropping a 72-69 decision to third-seeded Plymouth State in semi-final action Friday evening. The Anchormen held a 15 point lead with five minutes to go in the first-half, until the Panthers exploded and closed out the half with a 15-1 run. Plymouth State went on a 15-8 run midway through the second half, but the Anchormen came back and tied the game at 62 with four minutes remaining. After a PSU timeout with 3:52 to go, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run and held on for the victory. RIC falls to 18-8 overall, and has recorded the most wins in a season since the í95-96 club also won 18. Plymouth State improves to 19-8 with the victory. RICís post-season hopes are still alive, as the Anchormen are eligible for the ECAC New England Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. The ECAC Tournament participants will be announced on Monday.


RIC had three players score in double figures, led by senior forward Jason Harris (Boston, MA) who had 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) added 17 points while freshman guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) dropped in 11 in the losing effort.


As a team, RIC shot 29% from the floor, while Plymouth State shot 42.3%, including a 19-for-33 (57.6%) effort in the second-half.


PSU senior guard Nick Pelotte (Bingham, ME) led the Panthers with a game-high 31 points, seven boards and five assists. Pelotte also recorded his 2,000th career point midway through the second-half. Sophomore forward Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, NY) added 26 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Panthers.
