Rhode Island College Women’s Soccer Update #2

(3-2 Overall; 0-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Ryan Angel’s team is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen are tied with UMass Dartmouth and UMass Boston for sixth place in the LEC.

Anchorwomen Notables

After opening the season with a 3-0 record, the best start for the program in five years, RIC has dropped its last two games.

The Anchorwomen lost to Johnson & Wales, 4-2, on Tuesday, Sept. 13. RIC fell behind 3-0, but battled back to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 3-2 in the 74th minute. JWU scored in the 82nd minute to put the game out of reach. Sophomore forward Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) and junior midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) each scored in the loss. Sophomore midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) assisted on both goals. Freshman midfielder Kendra Gerrish (North Stonington, CT) and sophomore forward Ashley Teixeira (Warren, RI) also notched assists.

RIC opened Little East Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 17 with a 4-1 loss to Southern Maine. Calenda’s goal on a penalty kick in the 74th minute was the only bright spot in a tough loss.
