Katie Benevides Named Little East Conference Softball Player of the Week


Providence, RIóRhode Island College senior left fielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) was named the Little East Conference Softball Player of the Week.


Benevides went 8-for-14 for a .571 batting average in a 3-1 week for the Anchorwomen. She also accumulated one run scored, three RBI and one walk. She went 4-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI in RICís, 7-3, win at Wheaton on Mar. 28.


She has played in 16 games, starting all of them, on the season. She is batting .423 (22-for-52) with 13 runs scored, 22 hits, three doubles and five RBI. She owns a .481 slugging percentage, a .492 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. Benevides leads the team in batting, hits, runs scored and is tied for third on the squad in RBI.


Head Coach Maria Morinís team is currently 10-6 on the season. In upcoming action, RIC will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Apr. 4, Curry on Thursday, Apr. 6 and Keene State on Saturday, Apr. 8.
