Weather Ends Rhode Island College Baseballís Bid for ECAC Title

Providence, RIó The 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div. III Baseball Championship has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions and will not be resumed. The semi-finals and finals were to be held today at Keene State at noon and 3 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Rhode Island College was scheduled to take on top-seeded Keene State, while sixth-seeded Castleton State was slated to play second-seeded Brandeis, at noon in the semi-finals. The finals would have been played at 3 p.m.

Head Coach Jay Grenierís club had advanced with a first round, 9-4, win over fifth-seeded UMass Boston on Friday, May 19.

The Anchormen, who had their NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship hopes dashed after being eliminated from the 2006 Little East Conference Baseball Tournament on May 11, were making their first ECAC New England Div. III Baseball Championship appearance in 19 years (1987).

Rhode Island College wraps up the 2006 season with a 21-20 overall record. The Anchormen notch their first winning season since 2003 and won the most games since the 1979 squad won 24 contests.
