Roger Williams University Drops Overtime Thriller To Rhode Island College 80-77, In Menís Basketball




Bristol, RI Ė Roger Williams University junior co-captain Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, RI) scored a game-high 19 points and recorded 13 rebounds, but it was not enough to keep Rhode Island College from claiming an 80-77 overtime victory over the Hawks on Thursday nightís home opener played at the Roger Williams University Campus Recreation Center.


In a game that saw back and forth action throughout the night, Hawks senior co-captain Chris Cormier (Trumbull, CT) delivered a game tying three pointer with just six seconds left sending the game into overtime. The Anchormen made two huge three point shots in the overtime as Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) and Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) each connected on back-to-back three point attempts. The Anchormen shot 71% in overtime and the Hawks shot 50% proving to be the difference maker as each team came out firing on all cylinders.


Hawks sophomore Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, CT) notched a double-double as he registered 17 points and 14 boards, while Cormier posted 16 points and three assists on the evening. Sophomore guard Ben Camobreco (Duxbury, MA) registered 10 points and four boards in the loss.


The Anchormen were led by sophomore guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) who led the RIC offense with 17 points, while Payette poured in 13 points and 13 boards in the win.


The Hawks fall to 0-4, while the Anchormen improved to 4-1 on the season. The Hawks will open up their 2005-06 Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule on Saturday (Dec. 3) when they face Anna Maria College at 3:00 p.m.
