DANBURY, CT   The Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Rhode Island College, 74-70, in Little East Conference play, tonight in Feldman Arena.

In an evenly matched game, Colonials (9-6, 2-4) senior guard Greg Cole (Terrytown, NY) tallied 24 points to lead WestConn to its second consecutive conference victory.

In a back-and-forth first half, the largest lead was just seven points as the Anchormen (8-7, 2-4) took a 7-0 lead after two minutes of play.  The Colonials chipped away at the lead and held a four-point advantage, 31-27, at the half.

Rhode Island looked to be in control of the game as they held an eight point lead with 4:35 to go in the game, but again the WestConn men would not back down as they nailed consecutive three-pointers by sophomore center Andrew Snell (Bogata, NJ) and Cole to cut the lead to two with 3:31 to play.  The contest was back and forth for the next minute until Cole drained another three-pointer with 2:16 to go and the home team never looked back as they took a 74-70 win.

WestConn senior forward Jason Barnett (Windsor, CT) recorded a game high 13 rebounds.

Rhode Island was led by junior guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) with 16 points.

The WestConn men travel to Plymouth State for a Little East Conference game on Saturday, January 21.  Tip off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
