Kyle Teixeira Named Words Unlimited
Small College Co-Athlete of the Year


Providence, RIóRhode Island College senior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) will share Words Unlimitedís Small College Achievement Award with Salve Regina University baseball player Eric Cirella. Words Unlimited is an organization made up of Rhode Islandís sports media journalists and publicists. Teixeira will be honored at the organizationís annual banquet on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Radisson at the Airport Hotel in Warwick beginning at 6:30 p.m.


Teixeira re-wrote the RIC Menís Soccer record books during his four seasons as an Anchorman. He will most certainly go down as one of the best players in the programís history. In 2005, Teixeira was named the Little East Conference Menís Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Year, for the third time in his career, and was selected First Team All-LEC for the fourth consecutive season. He was just the second player in LEC history to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors three times to go along with four straight First Team All-Conference selections. He played in 22 games, starting 21 of them, leading both the team and the LEC in goals and points with 19 and 49, respectively. He broke Domenico Petrarcaís í77 record for career points early in the season versus M.I.T. with a two-goal, one-assist performance in a RIC, 3-1, win on Sept. 10.


Teixeira closed out his career having played in 80 games, starting 77 of them. He had 82 goals and 27 assists for 191 career points. He holds the RIC records for the most goals and points in a career, and is second in career assists. Teixeira also holds the RIC record for the most goals scored in a season, set as a sophomore in 2003.


Teixeira is a physical education/health education major and a 2002 graduate of Mount Hope High School.
