Anchorwomen Down DeSales, 3-1


Center Valley, PA Rhode Island College junior forward Gina Calenda scored two goals as the Anchorwomen defeated DeSales University, 3-1, as part of the Muhlenberg College Mule Classic. RIC, which lost to Muhlenberg, 2-0, last night, evened its tourney record at 1-1 with the victory. RIC improves to 3-1 overall, while DeSales remains winless with an 0-3 mark on the season.


Calenda opened the game with an unassisted tally in the 13th minute and added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, converting a pass from senior midfielder Caitlin Gavin. Senior forward Erika Haaland scored and unassisted goal in the 57th minute to round out the Anchorwomen's offensive output on the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski made five stops to up her record to 3-1.


The only blemish on Pyzynski's performance was Katie Halpin's goal in the 69th minute. DeSales goalkeeper Kelly Hinkle made eight saves in a losing effort.


RIC outshot DeSales, 27-17. In upcoming action, RIC will play at Coast Guard on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
