Anchormen Whitewash Corsairs, 3-0


NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.-Rhode Island College scored twice in the first half and blanked the University of Massachusetts Dartmouthís menís soccer team, 3-0, in a Little East Conference match at Cressy Field this afternoon.

RIC (4-3-0, LEC 2-1-0) opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when junior midfielder  Derek Arsenault converted off  pass from senior midfielder Nic Rossi to stake the Anchormen to an early 1-0 lead. Senior striker Chris Childs connected on the first of his two markers in the 10th minute, sending a shot past UMass Dartmouth junior goalkeeper Kyle Fossey ( six saves). Childs put the finishing touches on RIC's second conference victory with an insurance marker in the 74th minute. Junior midfielder Julian Montoya was credited with the helper on Child's second goal of the campaign..


Although the Corsairs (3-4-1, 0-2-1)  held a 16-12 advantage in shots, they could not  solve junior Jadon Neves. Neves made six saves with three in each stanza. .


RIC returns to action at 4 p.m. on Oct. 3, when the Anchormen host  Tufts University in non-conference action.
