Gavin Explodes For 13 Points In RIC’s First Win

CHICOPEE,
MA-
Senior center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth,
RI) erupted for a
game-high eight goals and five assists to lead Rhode Island College to
its first victory of the season, handing Elms College a 22-4 loss this
afternoon at Leary Field. Junior midfielder Kerry McDevitt (Jamestown,
RI)
registered a career-high eight points on seven markers and a helper to
raise the Anchorwomen’s record to 1-4. |

Rhode Island
College charged out to a commanding 12-1 advantage with eight minutes
remaining in the opening half. Junior midfielder Brittney Godbout (Cranston,
RI) scored her
first collegiate goal to open the flood gates, while Gavin and
McDevitt followed suit to stake the Anchorwomen to a 3-0 lead. The
hosts responded with a marker, but the visitors answered with nine
consecutive scores. During the flurry, junior attack Sherri Heard (Coventry,
RI)
also netted her first collegiate tally, while Gavin added five markers
and two helpers. |

Rhode Island
College continued its offensive eruption in the second stanza, scoring
the first seven goals. McDevitt found the back of the net for three
second-half goals, while freshman attacker Emily Conte (North
Providence, RI)
added two markers and junior defender Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor,
CT)
chipped in with one. |

Between the
pipes, freshman goalie Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor,
CT)
only had to make four saves to earn her first collegiate victory,
while Alicia Bobbie turned back 11 Anchorwomen offerings. |

Rhode Island
College returns to action at 7 p.m. on April 10, when the Anchorwomen
travel to Worcester State. |
