Anchorwomen Overpower Blazers, 22-4
Gavin Explodes For 13 Points In RIC’s First Win

CHICOPEE, MA- Senior center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) erupted for a game-high eight goals and five assists to lead Rhode Island College to its first victory of the season, handing Elms College a 22-4 loss this afternoon at Leary Field. Junior midfielder Kerry McDevitt (Jamestown, RI) registered a career-high eight points on seven markers and a helper to raise the Anchorwomen’s record to 1-4.

Rhode Island College charged out to a commanding 12-1 advantage with eight minutes remaining in the opening half. Junior midfielder Brittney Godbout (Cranston, RI) scored her first collegiate goal to open the flood gates, while Gavin and McDevitt followed suit to stake the Anchorwomen to a 3-0 lead. The hosts responded with a marker, but the visitors answered with nine consecutive scores. During the flurry, junior attack Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) also netted her first collegiate tally, while Gavin added five markers and two helpers.

Rhode Island College continued its offensive eruption in the second stanza, scoring the first seven goals.  McDevitt found the back of the net for three second-half goals, while freshman attacker Emily Conte (North Providence, RI) added two markers and junior defender Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) chipped in with one.

Between the pipes, freshman goalie Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) only had to make four saves to earn her first collegiate victory, while Alicia Bobbie turned back 11 Anchorwomen offerings.

Rhode Island College returns to action at 7 p.m. on April 10, when the Anchorwomen travel to Worcester State.
