Culbertson Notches Career-High Four Points as
Anchorwomen Drop Second Straight Contest

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior midfielder Sydney Culbertson (North Kingstown, RI) recorded a career-high four points on two goals and two assists, but it wasn’t enough as Bridgewater State overpowered the Anchorwomen, 18-7, in collegiate women’s lacrosse action.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead off the stick of senior midfielder Kathryn Sweeney (Norwood, MA). RIC senior center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) briefly quelled the surge with a goal, before Bridgewater State erupted for six straight tallies, capped by freshman attacker Shannon Manning’s (Framingham, MA) marker with 14:57 left in the first frame.

The two teams went into intermission with the Bears holding an 11-3 advantage. Bridgewater State kept up the pressure, scoring fours goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half and never looked back. The Anchorwomen scored the final three goals of the game as the Bears upped their record to 7-5 overall.

Sweeney led all scorers with four goals and one assist for five points. Manning and senior attacker Alicia Spolidoro (Duxbury, MA) each had a goal and an assist.

Freshman Chelsea Bracchi (Pembroke, MA) made four stops in the final 30 minutes.
