Caitlin Gavin Honored by the
R.I.A.I.A.W.
|
|
|
|
Providence, RI— Rhode
Island College senior Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) received
a Distinguished Student-Athlete Award from the Rhode Island
Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) at a
reception hosted by Roger Williams on May 2. |
|
|
|
Gavin, a
physical education/health major, owns a cumulative grade point
average of 3.84, and concluded a stellar career in women’s soccer
and lacrosse this past season. |
|
|
|
Her name sits atop almost every statistical record in
Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse history. She is the
Anchorwomen’s all-time leader in shots (573), goals (279), assists
(45), points (324), ground balls (339) and draw controls (292).
Gavin holds numerous single-season and game records as well. She is
a three-time First Team All-Little East Conference selection and led
the nation in goals per game as a sophomore and ground balls per
game as a junior. She was named the team’s MVP three times, from
2004-06. |

As a
midfielder in women’s soccer, Gavin
was the first player in
school history to receive National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA) All-New England Region team recognition, earning
Third Team honors, as a senior in 2006. She was also a First Team
All-Little East Conference selection and was named the team MVP. She
played in 78 career games, starting 72 of them. Gavin registered 51
points on 18 goals and 15 assists. She is fourth at RIC all-time in
career assists, while ranking sixth in both points and goals. |
