RIC Wrestling Light Up the Sunshine State


Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College wrestling team returned home from its annual trip to the Citrus Invitational and Duals held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Dec. 29-30 with several key performances from within the ranks.


Junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) took home first place in the 141 lbs. weight class, going a perfect 4-0 at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29. He followed that performance up by winning each of his matches in the dual portion of the competition the following day, including two victories at 149 lbs. Bonora is currently riding a 10-match winning streak. On the season, he is 24-3 with 95 takedowns, eight reversals and four pins. He has earned third place-finishes at the Roger Williams, Doug Parker and R.I.T. Invitationals previously this season.


Senior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) placed third at 165 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29, going 5-1 with three pins. He is currently 12-5 with 11 takedowns, five reversals and five pins on the season. Earlier on the campaign, Privedenyuk placed sixth at the Roger Williams Invitational.


Senior Andrew Algarin (Leominster, MA) placed sixth at 285 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29, going 2-2. Two of his matches were in sudden victory. Algarin is currently 8-7 with 11 takedowns and two pins on the season.


Head Coach Jay Jones led the Anchormen to a 9th place finish out of a 16-team field, registering 50.5 points, at the Citrus Invitational. The team posted a 2-1 mark in the dual portion, defeating Wilmington (36-9) and Concordia University (31-9), while falling in a tight match to Concordia College (18-16).


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will compete at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming, on Jan. 12-13.
