Wrestling Returns From Budd Whitehill Duals with 1-3 Mark
Bonora Earns Pilgrim Wrestling League Weekly Honor


Providence, RI—Head Coach Jay Jones team returned from the always competitive Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming on Jan. 12-13. The Anchormen went 1-3 in four dual meets, downing Thiel, 26-14. Rhode Island College fell to John Carroll, 23-9, Wabash, 21-18 and Oswego, 18-13.


The Anchormen are 5-5 overall, 2-0 against New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) opposition and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League.


Junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) continued his winning ways at the Budd Whitehill Duals, going 4-0 to up his record to 28-3 and continue his 14-match winning streak. For his efforts, Bonora was named the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Wrestler of the Week. Bonora owns a team-high 104 takedowns to go along with eight reversals, 11 near-falls and four pins.


Freshman Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) also went 4-0 this weekend to increase his record to 19-7 at 157 lbs. He is riding a modest seven-match winning streak. Martini has 26 takedowns, 11 reversals, eight near-falls and one pin on the season.


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will compete at rival W.P.I. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 before taking part in the NECCWA Duals, hosted by Bridgewater State on Jan. 21.
