Rhode Island College to Battle Little East Rival Keene State in NCAA Sectional Round on Mar. 9

Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College Anchormen advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Div. III Menís Basketball Tournament with a 70-67 win over Brandeis in the Second Round on Saturday, Mar. 3.


With only 16 teams remaining, the Anchormen advance to the Sectional Round and will face Little East Conference rival Keene State on Friday, Mar. 9 at Amherst College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner of the that game will play the winner of the Stevens Institute of Technology vs. Amherst matchup the following evening.


Head Coach Bob Walshís team is 26-3 on the season. Rhode Island College lost both regular season meetings against Keene State, falling, 82-78, on Dec.2 at The Murray Center, then on the road, 92-81, on Jan. 20. The Anchormen exacted their revenge in an 87-75 win over the Owls in the Championship Game of the 2007 Little East Conference Menís Basketball Tournament on Feb. 24.


It was RICís first-ever Little East Conference Tournament title. The Anchormen were the 2007 LEC Regular Season Champions for second time in the past three seasons. RICís 26 wins are a new school record for a single season.


The Anchormenís only other loss was to Amherst, ranked No. 1 in the nation at the time, 62-48, at The Murray Center on Jan. 30.
