Junior Also Garners 1st Team and Scholar-Athlete All-Star Honors
Privedenyuk, Goncalves & Casey Also Receive Honors


Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) was named the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Wrestler of the Year. He was also named a Pilgrim League First Team All-Star and to the Scholar-Athlete All-Star Team.


Bonora was an All-American, placing sixth at 141 lbs., at the 2007 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships on Mar. 2-3. He was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 2007 New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) Championships, winning the 141 lbs. crown on Feb. 18. Bonora finished the season with a 48-6 record to go along with 170 takedowns, 11 reversals, 17 near-falls and seven pins. He was Rhode Island College’s first All-American in 13 years and broke the school record for wins in a season.


Senior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) was an Honorable Mention to the Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star Team. Privedenyuk was 26-10 at 165 lbs. with 31 takedowns, 11 reversals, 14 near-falls and a team-high 13 pins.


Sophomore Steve Goncalves (Cumberland, RI) was named to the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Scholar-Athlete All-Star Team. Goncalves was 14-12 at 125 lbs. with 62 takedowns, 13 reversals, nine near-falls and three pins.


Junior Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) was named to the Pilgrim Wrestling League’s Scholar-Athlete All-Star Team. Casey was 20-9 at 174 lbs. with 53 takedowns, 12 reversals, nine near-falls and two pins.


Head Coach Jay Jones team finished the season with an eighth place finish at the NECCWA Championships, hosted by Roger Williams on Feb. 17-18. Rhode Island College was 13-10 overall, 9-7 in the NECCWA and 3-3 in the Pilgrim League on the season.
