Salem State Plates Eight In First Three Frames

Salem, MAŚSalem State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 10-3 win over Rhode Island College on Thursday afternoon at Salem State Field.

The Vikings (10-5) scored three runs on two hits off of RIC (8-5) junior starting pitcher Bruce Celico (Westerly, RI) in the bottom of the first inning. The Anchormen jumped right back into the contest with two runs in the top of the second as junior second baseman Garrett Grenier (North Smithfield, RI) contributed a sacrifice fly.

SSC freshman shortstop Ryan Kane (Nahant, MA) produced a run scoring single and finished with three RBIs. Senior first baseman Ken Luongo (Wilmington, MA) went 2-for-4, including a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while senior third baseman Mike Addesa (Revere, MA) added a two-run single.

Rhode Island College senior Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) continued his torrid hitting pace by going 3-for-5. Junior center fielder B.J. Doyon (Douglas, MA) went 2-for-3 with one run scored and a triple. Senior Evan Grogan (East Lyme, CT) hurled an inning of scoreless relief.

Salem State junior right-hander Bobby Fournier (Cambridge, MA) registered his first victory of the season, going 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits and giving up just one run. He walked one and struck out one. Celico (2-2) took the loss for the Anchormen.
