Culbertson Leads All Scorers With Seven Points in Losing Effort


Providence, RI-The University of Southern Maine improved to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in Little East Conference action in a 16-13 victory over Rhode Island College Thursday night at the RIC Lacrosse Field. The Anchorwomen remain winless on the season with an 0-7 overall record and a 0-3 mark in league action.


The Huskies opened up an 11-7 halftime advantage, paced by freshman attack Mary Vaughan (Brunswick, ME) two goals. The Anchorwomen outscored USM, 6-5, over the final 30 minutes, but could not close the gap down the stretch.


Southern Maine was led by senior attack Justine Dorr (Gorham, ME) with three goals and two assists for five points. Freshman midfielder Kristy Kendrick (Waterboro, ME) contributed three goals and one assist, while Vaughan added one second-half goal to complete the hat trick.


Rhode Island College senior midfielder Sydney Culbertson (North Kingstown, RI) led all scorers with six goals and an assist for seven points, while sophomore midfielder Meridith Darby (Middletown, RI) notched two goals and two assists.


RIC freshman netminder Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) took the loss (0-7) with eight stops, while USM senior goalkeeper Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, NY) made seven saves to earn her third (3-6) win.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Little East Conference foe Plymouth State on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. Southern Maine will host UMass Dartmouth on Apr. 12 as well.
