Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College womenís outdoor track and field team competed at the Swanson Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan on Saturday, Apr. 12. It was an individual meet with no team scoring.




Sophomore Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, RI) placed first in both shot and discus with efforts of 10.17 and 30.53 meters, respectively. She also placed second in the hammer with a 41.99-meter effort.

Junior Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) placed first in the hammer with a distance of 43.38 meters, while freshman Rachael Santaniello (Exeter, RI) was third with a 33.92-meter effort.




The 4x400 meter relay squad, composed of junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI), sophomore Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA), sophomore Liz Glunt (Altoona, PA) and freshman Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI), placed first with a time of 4:17.36.




The 4x100 meter relay squad, composed of Glunt, DiBlasi, Iby and freshman Denis McCann (West Greenwich, RI) placed third with a time of 53.35.



Fleming placed first in the high jump (1.60m), third in the 1,500 meters (5:11.80) and third in the long jump (4.54m).


DiBlasi won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.63, while placing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.97). Freshman Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI) was third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.69.


In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, Apr. 19.
