Marcus Reilly Announces Incoming Recruits
for 2008-09 Women’s Basketball Season

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College first-year Head Women’s Basketball Coach Marcus Reilly has 10 incoming recruits with many expected to make an immediate impact this upcoming season.

“Despite a small window to produce a recruiting class after taking over the program, my staff and I couldn't be more excited with the players and class balance that resulted,” Reilly said. “We have brought in a great mix of student-athletes who will have a great chance to impact our program's rise from their first day on the floor. We look forward to developing all of our prospects and gelling them with a core group of returnees who are working very hard.”

Here is a brief synopsis of Reilly’s incoming players:

Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI): A 5-9 shooting guard out of North Providence High School who broke RIC Athletic Hall of Famer Jo-Ann D’Alessandro’s ’88 all-time career scoring mark. She was a First Team All-Division selection who chose RIC over other NE-10 and Div. IIII programs. Her sister, Christina, is a junior guard for the Anchorwomen. “She has great potential as a scoring guard in the Little East,” Reilly said.

Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI): A 6-2 forward/center out of Coventry High School who was an All-Division player. “She is long and athletic with great speed and hands,” Reilly said. “Rachel can play all of the forward sports and has great potential as a post/swing player in the conference.”

LaSheena Boyd (Stratford, CT): A 5-4 point guard who is a junior transfer from the Community College of Rhode Island. She played for Reilly as a member of the Lady Knights. During her career, Boyd led CCRI to the NJCAA Final Four in 2005-06 and to the Elite Eight in 2007-08. Reilly said, “She is a quick and athletic lead guard who can breakdown and shoot the three. LaSheena has great potential to fill the void at the point guard position.”

Ashley Abrahamson (Raynham, MA): A 5-11 forward/center who had signed with Southern Connecticut out of high school, but eventually played at CCRI. She helped lead CCRI to the Elite Eight in 2006-07. “Ashley has a strong post presence and is a great finisher,” Reilly said. “She can also step out to shoot the three with consistency.”

Melinda Hunold (North Kingstown, RI): A 6-0 sophomore transfer from Georgian Court where she averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game as a rookie. The forward led North Kingstown High School to a State Championship in 2004-05. “Melinda is a lefty knockdown shooter who has the versatility to play a variety of positions and play them well,” Reilly said.

The following players are also expected to join the program this winter: Ashley Edes (Middletown, RI), 6-0 forward. Marjorie Pfeiffer (Middletown, RI), 6-3 center. Vanessa Powers, 5-11 guard from Vermont. Rachel Motta (Tiverton, RI), 5-10 forward. Lauren Beland (North Attleboro, MA), 5-9 guard/forward.
