Mike Bonora Named Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week




Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior captain Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) was named the Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week for his performance last week.








The No. 1 ranked grappler in the nation and in New England went a perfect 3-0 to improve to 35-2 on the season. Bonora won both of his matches on Senior Night this past Friday evening, defeating Jacob Gire (7-3) from Trinity and Justin Thomas (17-3) from Bridgewater State in his final home action at The Murray Center. He has totaled an amazing 122 takedowns, nine reversals, 32 near-falls and nine pins on the season. Bonora is undefeated against NCAA Div. III opponents.



He will be the favorite and top seed to capture the 141 lbs. crown at the 2008 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24 at Southern Maine.



Head Coach Jay Jones’ team finished the regular season with a 16-4 overall record, an 11-3 mark and NEWA opposition and 4-2 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. The Anchormen are currently ranked third in New England and No. 22 nationally.
