Rhode Island College Menís & WomenísIndoor
Track & Field Competes at N.E. Open Championships




Cambridge, MAóThe Rhode Island College menís and womenís indoor track and field teams competed at the 2008 New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29-Mar. 1.




The womenís team tied for 24th place (32 teams) with a score of 4.0 points.




Sophomore Steina Flemming (Tortola, BVI) placed fifth in the finals of the 55 meters with a time of 7.17, breaking the RIC record she already established earlier this winter. She placed seventh in the semifinals with a time of 7.23 and 10th in the preliminaries at 7.29.

Junior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, RI) placed ninth in the high jump with a 1.65-meter effort.


The menís team tied for 31st place (33 teams) with a score of 2.0 points.


Senior Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed seventh in the finals of the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.57. He placed 10th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:05.73.

Junior Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) placed 18th in the preliminaries of the 500 meters with a time of 1:06.64.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted by Harvard on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 7-8.
