Corriveau Leads RIC to Second Win of the Season




Providence, RI--Rhode Island College improved to 2-3 on the season with a 3-1 win over Emmanuel in non-conference womenís volleyball action on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.




The Anchorwomen (2-3) opened the match with a 25-18 win in the first set. Rhode Island College pulled away with a four-point run while junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) was serving.

The Saints (1-3) battled back with a decisive, 25-13, win in the second stanza. Emmanuel ran off five straight points while sophomore Samantha Murphy (Manchester, CT) was serving to take a 15-5 lead. EC moved into the driverís seat with two points, 24-13, while senior outside hitter Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) was serving, and won the set on a side out.


Rhode Island College went on a run while senior libero Jackie Gervais (Woonsocket, RI) was serving to take a 16-9 lead in set three as RIC held off a late surge to win, 25-18. The Anchorwomen took the fourth set, 25-19 to win the match.


Corriveau posted a team-high 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) and sophomore middle blocker Erin St. Jacques (Warwick, RI) logged nine and eight winners, respectively. St. Jacques added six blocks. Gervais led the Anchorwomen with 24 digs, while sophomore setter Nicole Enos (Coventry, RI) handed out 38 assists.

Parker and freshman outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, OH) led the Saints with 11 kills apiece. Freshman setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, MA) logged 32 assists, while sophomore libero Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) made 21 digs.


In upcoming action, RIC will face Tufts at the Brandeis Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.
