Middletown, CT—Rhode Island College lost to Wesleyan, 3-0, in collegiate women’s volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Anchorwomen fall to 3-11 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 7-3.




Wesleyan pushed out to an early, 11-2, lead in the first set, only to see RIC storm back to make it a two-point margin at 15-13. Wesleyan regained its edge and pulled away to earn a 25-16 win in the first set.  



Though the Anchorwomen led, 3-2, in both the second and third set, it was the only leads for RIC on the evening as the Cardinals rolled away with the middle set, 25-11, then sat NESCAC kills leader  senior Lisa Drennan, who had 12 kills in the opening two sets, in the third frame.


Wesleyan won the final set 25-16, maintaining a five to eight point lead most of the way.  


Wesleyan junior Ellie Healy logged 28 assists, while junior Ashley Farrow registered five kills and four blocks, senior Alicia Garrison earned seven kills and sophomore Ruby Hernandez posted 11 digs.


RIC sophomore outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) led the team with seven kills, while junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) notched six winners and 13 digs.


The Anchorwomen will host Wesleyan on Thursday, Oct. 23.


In upcoming action, RIC will play a tri-match at Rivier, along with Framingham State, on Saturday, Sept. 27.
