Providence, RIóRhode Island College freshman forward Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore defender Corey Carvalho (Dartmouth, MA) were honored by the Little East Conference for their performance in menís soccer last week.


Costa was named the LEC Menís Soccer Rookie of the Week. He scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to lift the Anchormen past Western Connecticut State University, 1-0, on Oct. 4. Costa sits atop the Little East Conference standings in game-winning goals (4), while ranking third in goals (6) and fourth in points (15). He has been named the LECís Rookie of the Week twice and named the Offensive Player of the Week once on the season. For the season, Costa has played in 11 games, starting 10 of them.

Carvalho was named the Little East Menís Soccer Defender of the Week. He has anchored a Rhode Island College defensive third that has yet to surrender a goal in the Little East Conference circuit. In the Anchormenís lone match of the week, Carvalho was credited with the assist on Costaís game-winning goal against Western Connecticut. Rhode Island College has not allowed a goal since the 81st minute against Coast Guard on Sept. 14, a span of 401 minutes. For the season, he has played in 11 games, starting 10 of them.

Head Coach John Melloís team is currently 6-3-2 overall and 3-0 (first place) in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen are unbeaten in their last eight games. In upcoming action, RIC will play at Clark on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
