North Dartmouth, MA—Rhode Island College came back from a two-set deficit, but eventually succumbed to UMass Dartmouth, 3-2, in collegiate women’s volleyball action Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.




The Corsairs defeated the Anchorwomen, 25-13, 25-17, 20-25, 22-25 and 15-12, to improve to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference. RIC sees its record fall to 6-14 overall and 0-3 in league action.




The Anchorwomen had three players reach double digits in kills, led by sophomore middle blocker Erin St. Jacques (Warwick, RI) with a team-high 17. Junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) and sophomore outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) posted 14 and 10 winners, respectively. Senior libero Jackie Gervais (Woonsocket, RI) contributed 30 digs, while Corriveau added 26. Freshman setter Tiana Pittman (Warwick, RI) handed out a career-high 46 assists.

UMD senior middle blocker Hilary Teichert (Pocasset, MA) led the Corsairs with nine kills and five blocks, including two solo blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT) added four block assists, freshman outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA), freshman libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA) had six digs, and senior setter Melanie Staiger (Bourne, MA) added 24 assists.



In upcoming action, RIC will play at Trinity on Saturday, Oct. 11.
