Boston, MA—Rhode Island College junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) logged a team-high 13 kills, but it wasn’t enough to lift the seventh-seeded Anchorwomen past second-seeded UMass Boston, 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-14), in first round action of the 2008 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament.




The Anchorwomen end their season with an 8-23 overall record, while the Beacons will play third-seeded Eastern Connecticut on Friday, Nov. 7 in Keene, NH at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.

UMass Boston junior outside hitter Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, CA) smashed a game-high 21 kills and hit .366 for the match, while freshman setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) matched her career-high with 43 assists.




McWhorter closed out the match for the Beacons with nine kills in the final set and added eight digs, four block assists and an ace for the match. Hanneman spiked for three kills and a .500 hitting mark to go with 11 digs and a block solo. Junior outside hitter Kate White (Plymouth, MA) was outstanding on the night with 15 kills on a .303 hitting percentage and added five digs and a block assist, while junior libero Megan MacAuley (Upland, CA) anchored the defense with 17 digs, an ace and a kill on her only attack attempt. Senior Alessandra Adamo (Glastonbury, CT) also contributed with 10 digs and an ace.




Corriveau posted a .448 hitting percentage for the match, while scooping 11 digs, serving up an ace and getting up for two total blocks, while freshman setter Tiana Pittman (Warwick, RI) registered 29 assists in addition to seven digs and a pair of blocks.  Sophomore middle hitter Erin St. Jacques (Warwick, RI) put down seven kills, got down for four digs and up for five total blocks and senior right side hitter Tina Hilton (Woonsocket, RI) hit .375 with five kills in addition to 10 digs and an assisted block.
