Jackman, Perry & Berard Keep Anchorwomen Unbeaten at Home


Providence, RI-Sophomore pitcher Amanda Berard (Swansea, MA) earned a win, while junior first baseman Amy Jackman (Toms River, NJ) and sophomore second baseman Amanda Perry (New Bedford, MA) contributed offensively, as Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader from Bates on Saturday afternoon at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex.

RIC raises its record to 10-2 overall and 4-0 at home, while the Bobcats fall to 2-6 on the season.




The Anchorwomen took the first game, 3-2. RIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Perry notched a bases loaded single. The Bobcats came back to take a 2-1 lead with RBI singles by senior designated hitter Stacia Saniuk (Sharon, MA) and senior right fielder Leah Citrin (Rye Brook, NY) in the third and fourth innings, respectively.




Junior right fielder Michelle Perrin (Saugus, MA) tied the game up in the fifth with an RBI single. Sophomore shortstop Donielle Mattoon (Coventry, RI) blasted a one-out triple to center field in the sixth and came home on a Perry fielder’s choice with the deciding run.




Berard came on in the fifth in relief of classmate starter Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) and promptly slammed the door on Bates, striking out eight of the 10 batters she faced to earn the win. Bates freshman Kristen Finn (Winthrop, MA) took the loss (0-4) in relief of sophomore starter Sarah Cullen (Dover, MA).

RIC pulled away in game two with a three-run third and a four-run fifth to win, 10-2, in five innings. Jackman smacked a two-run double in the third, while freshman pinch hitter Danielle Gorneault (Berlin, CT) plated two with a two-RBI single in the fifth. Perry ended the contest early with an RBI single.




Junior starting pitcher Jenna Deveines (Lowville, NY) earned the win, striking out three in four innings of work. Berard came on to pitch a scoreless fifth. Bates senior pitcher Cristina Knobel (Walpole, MA) took the loss (1-1).




Perry went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the twinbill. Jackman went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in game two. Mattoon went 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI for the day.




Bates freshman third baseman Monica Berube (Plaistow, NH) made some outstanding plays in the field and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the twinbill.




In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host a doubleheader vs. Worcester State on Tuesday, Mar. 24.
