MURPHY & CANAVAN COMBINE TO SINK RIC
Voyer’s
Game-High Five Markers Are Not Enough
|

Providence, RI—Senior
attacker Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) and sophomore
midfielder Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) scored five and four
goals, respectively, to lead Lasell past Rhode Island College, 11-8,
in collegiate women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon.

Canavan found
the back of the net 52 seconds into the first half as she and Murphy
scored two goals apiece to help the Lasers (5-4) build a 6-0 lead
over the first 20 minutes of play. |

RIC (1-5)
freshman midfielder Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) score three
times over the final 10 minutes to pull RIC within four, 7-3, at the
break. |

Murphy
tallied twice to open the second half before the Anchorwomen
answered with three of the next four goals, all scored by senior
defender Jessica Shiel (Warwick, RI) who was moved up front.
Voyer scored with 4:50 left in regulation to pull the hosts within
two, but Canavan scored 11 seconds later to keep RIC at bay. |

Sophomore
goalie Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) was the story in net for
Lasell, making 18 saves, which included 10 second-half stops.
Sophomore netminder Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) made five
saves in a losing effort for RIC. |

Canavan added
two assists for a six-point afternoon to go along with six draw
controls and five ground balls. Senior defender Cassandra Haase
(Ridgewood, NJ) contributed a game-high nine caused turnovers
and nine ground balls. |

|
|
Voyer netted
a career-high five goals in a losing effort. RIC freshmen defenders
Allie Macamaux (Hope, RI) and Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI)
led the Anchorwomen with seven ground balls apiece. |

In upcoming
action, Rhode Island College will play at Westfield State on
Thursday, April 2. |
