Waltham, MA—Sophomore Kayla Jandreau (Plainville, CT) went 4-for-7 with five RBI, three runs scored and two homers as Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader from Brandeis on Thursday afternoon at Marcus Field. The Anchorwomen improve to 32-3-1 overall, while the Judges drop to 22-14.

Rhode Island College won the first game, 9-4. RIC put three on the board in the first, paced by a solo shot from Jandreau and a two-run blast by sophomore first baseman Chelsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, MA). The hosts came back with two runs of their own in the home half of the frame on a two-run double by junior catcher Erin Ross (Manalapan, NJ).


RIC sophomore shortstop Donielle Mattoon (Coventry, RI) smacked a solo homer in the second and Panarelli connected on another two-run bomb in the third. The Anchorwomen put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth as sophomore second baseman Amanda Perry (New Bedford, MA) doubled in a run and Jandreau and Panarelli plated runs with infield singles.

Sophomore reliever Amanda Berard (Swansea, MA) earned the win (10-1), allowing just one run on three hits, spelling junior starter Jenna Deveines (Lowville, NY) in the fourth. Brandeis freshman pitcher Caroline Miller (Bala Cynwyd, PA) took the loss (11-4).


Panarelli went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored, five RBI and two homers (4) in the win.


The visitors completed the sweep with a 4-1 win (five innings) in the nightcap. Jandreau’s second home run (2) of the day put two across in the first inning. The hosts cut the deficit to one run in the third as freshman right fielder Maxie Hirschler (Bellmore, NY) plated one with a sacrifice fly.


RIC added two insurance runs in the fifth with a Jandreau RBI single and a sophomore catcher Laura Kostenblatt (Keene, NH) RBI ground out.


Sophomore starter Melanie Neece (Westfield, MA) earned the win (10-2), allowing just four hits in five innings, before giving way to Berard who picked up her LEC-leading ninth save of the year. Brandeis junior starter Emily Vaillette (Milford, NH) took the loss (9-8).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue the Little East Conference schedule when it hosts rival Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, April 25.
