Providence, RI-The Little East Conference recognized Rhode Island College sophomore catcher Kayla Jandreau (Plainville, CT) and classmate pitcher Amanda Berard (Swansea, MA) for their performance in softball this past week.

Jandreau was named the Little East Conference Softball Player of the Week. She batted .500 (11-for-22) with seven runs scored, a double, three homers and 10 RBI as Rhode Island College posted a 6-1 record, including a 4-0 mark against teams ranked in the latest NCAA New England Regional rankings. In the conference circuit, she went 6-for-14 (.429) with a home run and four RBI against Eastern Connecticut and Western Connecticut. Earlier in the week, she went four-for-seven with a pair of homers and five RBI against regionally-ranked Brandeis University.


For the season, she has played in 39 games, starting 38 of them. She is batting .419 (52-for-124) with 43 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, three home runs, 26 RBI and six stolen bases.

Berard was named the Little East Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. She figured in each of Rhode Island Collegeís seven decisions this past week, sporting a 3-1 mark with three saves. Berard posted a 0.61 ERA with 20 strikeouts in just 23 innings. She was dominant against regionally ranked opponents, allowing just one run in 15.2 innings and penning three wins and a save into her ledger. For the season, she has appeared in 33 games, starting four of them. Berard is 12-2 with 11 saves, a 0.54 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 103.2 innings of work.


Head Coach Maria Morinís team clinched their fifth consecutive, and fourth outright, Little East Conference Regular Season Championship this past weekend.


RIC is the top seed and tourney host in the upcoming Little East Conference Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Southern Maine on Thursday, April 30 at 10 a.m.
