Six Anchormen Place in the Top Six


Springfield, Mass.—Rhode Island College senior Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) stayed unbeaten at 157 lbs., going 5-0, to raise his overall record to 10-0 and capture first place at the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday afternoon.




The Anchormen placed fourth out of the 17-team field, totaling 113.0 points. The Merchant Marine Academy (135.0), Springfield (124.50) and Williams (122.0) edged RIC in the standings. Six RIC wrestlers, including two freshmen, placed at the meet.




Martini, who defeated Williams’ Carl Breitenstein, 4-3, in the title match at 157 lbs., is currently 10-0 with three pins, 19 takedowns, six reversals and six near-falls on the season. He is currently ranked No. 1. in New England.

Senior Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) placed second, falling via pin (3:44) to Willams’ Ryan Malo, in the championship match, at 184 lbs. Logan went 3-1 on the day with two pins. Logan is currently ranked No. 3 in New England. He is 7-2 with four pins to go along with eight takedowns, one reversal and two near-falls on the season.

Freshman Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) placed third at 133 lbs., earning a 9-5 decision over Bryan Conrad from Coast Guard to close out the invitational. He went 4-1 with two pins on the day, raising his overall record to 9-2 to go along with four pins, 19 takedowns, three reversals and six near-falls. Legacy is currently ranked No. 3 in N.E.

Sophomore Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) placed third at 149 lbs., earning a 5-2 decision over Williams’ Dylan Rittenburg to wrap up the afternoon. He went 5-1 to raise his overall record to 9-3 with 14 takedowns, one reversal and six near-falls. Sutherland is currently ranked No. 3 in New England.

Freshman Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) placed fourth at 141 lbs., going 4-2 with two pins at the tourney. Trasso, currently ranked No. 3 in New England, is 8-3 with two pins, 14 takedowns, four reversals and two near-falls on the season.

Freshman Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) placed sixth at 125 lbs., going 5-3 to raise his overall record to 8-5 to go along with three pins, 17 takedowns, two reversals and eight near-falls.
