Williamsport, PA-The Rhode Island College wrestling team went 3-2 at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9-10.


RIC opened with a 34-9 loss to Ithaca on Friday evening. After freshman Jared Rhodes (Harrisburg, PA) earned a 10-7 decision over Anthony Lebbad at 125 lbs., the Bombers bounced back with six consecutive wins to take a 25-3 lead. Senior 184 lbs. Nick Logan (Lowell, MA) picked up his team-leading 10th pin of the season, turning Tom Heckman at 1:16, for the Anchormenís only other win in the match.

Rhode Island College rebounded with a 30-15 victory over Muskingum. The Anchormen took seven of the first eight bouts, highlighted by a 16-1 technical fall by senior Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) at 165 lbs. over Mitchell King and a 10-0 shutout at 184 lbs. by junior Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) over Michael Frasure.

John Carroll closed out RIC, 28-6, in Fridayís final contest. Martini and sophomore Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) each bumped up one weight class to earn the Anchormenís only wins at 157 and 165 lbs., respectively.


Saturday brought two wins for Rhode Island College as a sophomore Travis Drappiís (West Orange, NJ) pin (6:21) over Jim Mustakis at 141 lbs. and a Manley win by fall (1:37) over Ryan Baxter helped the Anchormen defeat Hunter, 25-18.


RIC downed Oswego State, 21-15, led by a Manley pin (1:35) over Joe Lester at 184 lbs. and a 16-0, technical fall (3:13) win by freshman Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) over Paul Slaver at 133 lbs.


Head Coach Jay Jonesís team is now 5-2 overall, 2-0 against New England Wrestling Association opponents and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. RIC gets back to the mat at NEWA rival WPI on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
