Anchormen Move Up Three Spots

Providence, RI-Rhode Island College freshman 133 lbs. Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT) was named the New England Wrestling Associationís Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Legacy was also tabbed as the Pilgrim Wrestling League's Rookie of the Week.

RIC, which fell in the title match, 18-17, of the NEWA Dual Meet Championship yesterday afternoon, moves up three spots to No. 2 as of the latest NEWA Coaches Poll.


Legacy, the top-ranked wrestler at 133 lbs. in New England, pinned Greg Wellman (4:01) in the Anchormenís, 36-10, win over MIT in opening round action of the NEWA Duals. He followed that with a win by fall (6:42) over Roger Williamsí Andrew Jackson in a 34-7 RIC win. Legacy helped the Anchormen defeat then top-ranked Williams, 23-17, with a 4-0 win over Mike Penza and closed out the day with a tech fall win over Johnson & Walesí Mitchell Cohen.


He is currently 19-8 with nine pins, 40 takedowns, eight reversals and 12 near-falls on the season.


Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is currently 9-3 overall, 6-1 against NEWA opposition and 1-0 in the Pilgrim Wrestling League.


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will compete at Western New England on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
