Providence, RI-The Little East Conference recognized Rhode Island College freshman Mason Choice (Newport, RI) as the Menís Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.

Choice averaged 14 points and five rebounds as Rhode Island College earned a pair of Little East Conference victories this past week over No. 14 UMass Dartmouth and UMass Boston. He was perfect from the field, knocking down each of his nine attempts, while converting on 67 percent (10-for-15) from the foul line.


Choice nearly collected his first collegiate double-double against the Corsairs last Tuesday, scoring a season-high 22 points and pulling in eight rebounds in a 69-66 Anchormen victory. He registered 16 of his team-high 22 points in the second stanza to help RIC overcome a first-half deficit. Four days later, Choice added six points and two boards in just 17 minutes in a 79-53 win over the Beacons.


For the season, he has played in 16 games, starting 11 of them. Choice is averaging 9.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. RIC is currently 12-4 overall and 6-1 (first place tie) in the Little East.


In upcoming action, the Anchormen will host Western Connecticut in a Little East battle on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
