Providence, RIóSeniors Wil Lyons (Warwick, RI) and Bobby Bailey (Fall River, MA) scored 21 points apiece to help lead Rhode Island College to an 84-73 victory over Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference menís basketball game on Tuesday evening at The Murray  Center.

RIC keeps pace with UMass Dartmouth for first place in the LEC with 7-1 records. The Anchormen won for the fourth straight game, and for the eighth time in their past nine contests.




WestConn (8-8, 3-5 LEC) came out on fire, hitting six of its first seven shots, which included five three-pointers. Freshman guard Daquan Brooks (Bristol, CT) connected on his first three trifectas as the visitors built an 11-point, 19-8, lead just 4:39 into the game.




The Colonials held a double-digit advantage until the 8:59 mark. Trailing 31-21, RIC embarked on a 25-13 run to take a 46-44 halftime lead as Lyons connected on a layup on the first frameís final possession.



Western Connecticut stormed back on a 10-6 run to take a one-point lead on a three-point basket by senior guard Dewayne Dickens (Danbury, CT) with 16:22 remaining in the game. Senior guard Dashon Jennings (Bridgeport, CT) scored on the clubís next three possessions to help the visitors take a 60-54 lead at 14:13.


The Anchormen battled back on a three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Bailey, along with a jumper by sophomore guard Antone Gray (Providence, RI), to regain the lead, 61-60, at 11:34. Freshman forward Mason Choice (Newport, RI) made two free throws a minute later to give RIC a advantage, 63-62, it would not relinquish the rest of the way.


The Anchormenís lead grew to as many as 12 points down the stretch and RIC did not allow a WestConn field goal over the final 7:18.


Bailey added five rebounds and three assists, while Lyons pulled in six boards. The duo combined to shoot 13-for-20 from the field. Senior guard Tirrell Hill (Bronx, NY) logged 15 points, while Choice added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.


Jennings led WestConn with 20 points, while Brooks and Dickens finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue the Little East Conference circuit on Saturday, Jan. 31 when the Anchormen travel to Keene State.
