RIC wins for the 10th straight time and notches its 14th victory over the past 15 games. The Anchormen raise their record to 18-4 overall land 11-1 in the LEC. The Huskies drop the season series to the visitors and see their record fall to 4-19 overall and 1-11 in league action.

The Anchormen can clinch at least a share of the 2009 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship with a win at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 17. A victory over the Colonials would also secure the homecourt advantage throughout the upcoming LEC Tournament.

It was a close beginning to the game with RIC taking the lead on a senior center Wil Lyons (Warwick, RI) jumper 1:03 into the contest. Otis Smith put the Huskies up, 5-4, with a trey at 16:31, but the Anchormen quickly responded with a 10-5 run, capped by a senior guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) three-pointer at 13:25 to make the score, 15-9.

The hosts hung tough, battling back to tie the game, 23-23, at 7:52 on two Smith free throws. The momentum was short-lived as RIC erupted for the next 11 points, led by five Lyonsí points, to take a 34-23 lead at 4:59. Senior guard Bobby Bailey (Fall River, MA) helped increase the margin to 19 points,  48-29, with a layup and three-pointer on back-to-back possessions. USMís Andy Tracy made a layup to send the hosts into the locker room down by 17, 48-31.

The Huskies would not get any closer than nine points the remainder of the game. Choice converted a layup and the ensuing free throw after being fouled to give RIC a game-high 20-point, 65-45, lead with 13:35 left. Sophomore guard Antone Gray (Providence, RI) paced the RIC attack in the final frame with nine points, two boards, two assists and a pair of steals over the final 20 minutes.

Smith led the Huskies with a game-high 20 points, while John Sewall and Sean Bergeron pitched in with 12 and 10, respectively.
