Rhode Island College sees its record fall to 10-14 overall and 5-8 in the LEC with two games remaining in the regular season. The Colonials improve their overall mark to 19-4 and move up to 11-2 in league play.

The visitors opened up the game on a 8-0 run over the first 2:41, led by four Riley points. The hosts responded with an 11-0 run of their own to take a three-point lead on a Stephanie Slonski layup at 12:09.

The two clubs went back and forth over the remainder of the first half, tying the score on seven occasions. Freshman guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) tied the game and put RIC on top by one, 24-23, with two free throws just before halftime.

Karli Spera put WestConn on top with a layup and foul shot, 26-24, to open the second half. The Colonials kept up the advantage until junior forward Jenn Knott (Narragansett, RI) tied the game for the eighth time, 36-all, at 13:56.

Once again, the game went back and forth with Coro draining a layup and three-pointer on back-to-back possessions tie the contest, 50-50, at 6:41. WestConn’s Heather Lee broke the deadlock with a triple at 6:09 and Stacey Roberts followed with a layup at 3:51 to give the hosts a cushion.

A Coro jumper made it a one-possession game, 55-52, at 3:19, only to see Roberts answer with two from the charity stripe at 3:01.

Coro netted a pair from the line to cut the deficit to three, 57-54, at 2:41, but the Anchorwomen could not score the equalizer. Free throws from Isabella Henry, Lee and Slonski sealed the win over the final minute.

Coro shot 6-for-11 from the field and made 4-of-5 from the line. Riley recorded her third collegiate double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior forward Ashley Abrahamson (Raynham, MA) chipped in with 10 points.

Lee led the hosts with 14 points, six boards and four steals. Katie Moffo contributed 11 points. Roberts posted eight boards.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue the Little East schedule at home against Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Feb. 21. It will be Senior Day as Michelle McNamee (Cranston, RI) and Tyla Martin (Cumberland, RI) will be honored prior to the start.
