RIC Womenís Soccer Picked Seventh in Little East Conference Preseason Poll

Providence, RIóThe Rhode Island College womenís soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the annual Little East Conference Preseason Poll after a vote by the leagueís eight coaches. Western Connecticut was picked to finish first.


The Anchorwomen are coming off a 2-16-1 season in 2008, in which RIC posted a 1-5-1 (seventh place) Little East Conference record. Head Coach Mike Koperda hit the off-season recruiting trail vigorously and welcomes 13 newcomers, coupled with six veterans, to this yearís edition.



 Senior All-Little East Midfielder Christina Tavana


Senior All-Little East Conference midfielder Christina Tavana (Middletown, CT) will anchor the squad. She played in 19 games, starting all of them, a year ago. Tavana had seven goals and two assists for 16 points. She led the club in goals and points, while tying for second in assists. Tavana was named the teamís MVP and was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week once. She netted the teamís game-winning goal in the season finale, 2-0, win over Southern Maine on Nov. 1.
