RIC Women’s Volleyball Picked Seventh in Little East Conference Preseason Poll

Providence, RI—The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the annual Little East Conference Preseason Poll after a vote by the league’s eight coaches. UMass Boston was picked to finish first.


The Anchorwomen are coming off a 8-23 season in 2008, in which RIC posted a 0-6 (seventh place) Little East Conference record. Head Coach Luis Carvalho has completely revamped his lineup, adding 13 newcomers, coupled with three veterans, to this year’s edition.



 Senior Outside Hitter Sharon Corriveau


Senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) is the club’s most experienced player. Last fall, she played in 112 games in 31 matches. She totaled 241 kills (2.2/game), a .146 hitting percentage, 24 service aces (.21/game), 467 digs (4.2/game) and 23 blocks (.21/game). Corriveau led the team in kills, while ranking second in both service aces and digs.


Senior middle blocker Kristen Johnson (East Providence, RI) also returns. She played in 109 games in 31 matches a year ago, totaling 109 kills (1.0/game) and 53 blocks (.49/game). Johnson was second on the team in blocks. Junior outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) played in 92 games in 27 matches. She totaled 197 kills (2.1/game), 19 service aces (.21/game), 209 digs (2.3/game) and 22 blocks (.24/game). Heidel was second on the team in kills.
