Providence, RIóFreshman Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) and junior Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) led the Rhode Island College womenís volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Western New England with 12 and 10 kills, respectively, from the outside hitter position on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

The first set was the most closely contested of the night, with the Anchorwomen (7-5) prevailing, 30-28. The Golden Bears (6-4) bounced back with a 25-19 win in the second frame. RIC held off WNEC with 25-22 and 25-23 wins over the final two sets to win its third straight match.




Junior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI), along with freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) and junior opposite April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI), paced a well-balanced attack for the hosts with nine, eight and eight kills, respectively. Freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) dished out 31 assists, while Oberhelman and Corriveau posted 18 and 17 digs.

WNEC senior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) and junior middle blocker Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT) led the visitors with 11 and eight winners, respectively. Junior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) handed out a match-high 40 assists, while junior outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) and Cervone posted 15 digs apiece.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at WPI on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
