Worcester, MA—Rhode Island College opened with a 3-0 shutout over host Clark, and dropped a hard-fought, 3-2, decision to Westfield State at a tri-match in collegiate women’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.




The Anchorwomen (11-10) opened with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) shutout-the second whitewash in a row for the club-over the Cougars (3-7) as freshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) led the way with a 12-kill, seven-dig effort. Freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) was dominant at the net with 10 kills and eight blocks. Freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) notched 19 assists, while senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) chipped in with eight kills and eight digs. Junior opposite April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI) led the squad defensively with 12 digs.

RIC was prevented from winning its third straight match in a back and forth, 3-2 (25-27, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20, 12-15), loss to the Owls (10-8). Boyer once again paced the offense with 12 kills and made nine digs. Oberhelman registered nine kills and a team-high 11 digs. Corriveau posted eight kills, seven digs and seven blocks. Ho had 21 assists.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume the Little East Conference schedule at home vs. UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
