Providence, RIóFreshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) totaled 15 kills and seven digs to lead the Rhode Island College womenís volleyball team to a 3-1 win over UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

RIC raises its record to 12-10 overall and earns its second Little East Conference win (2-1) of the year. The Corsairs fall to 11-6 overall and remain winless in league action (0-3).




The hosts opened with a 25-18 win in the first set, only to see UMD come back with a 25-18 victory of its own in the second stanza. The Anchorwomen edged the Corsairs, 25-21, in the pivotal third set and cruised to a 21-15 win in the final frame.

Junior opposite April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) each reached double digits in kills with 10 winners apiece. Oberhelman and freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) had strong defensive efforts with 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Ho dished out a season-high 28 assists.

Senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) and fellow OH, junior Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI), each recorded seven kills, while Corriveau just missed a double-digit dig effort (9). Heidel posted a match-high six blocks, while Archer was one off the pace.


UMass Dartmouth sophomore outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA) recorded 11 kills to lead the Corsair attack. Freshman setter Jessica Goncalves (New Bedford, MA) handed out 24 assists, while sophomore libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA) made 19 digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Roger Williams, Johnson & Wales and Salve Regina in a battle for the Ocean State title on Saturday, Oct. 6.
