Norton, MA—Freshman outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) compiled 50 kills, a .306 hitting percentage, 46 digs and seven blocks in 13 games and was named All-Tournament as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team went 1-2 at a quad-meet, hosted by Wheaton on Saturday afternoon at Emerson Gymnasium. The Anchorwomen opened with a loss to eventual champion Emerson, beat Gordon, and then fell in a tough, five-set battle with Wheaton.

RIC (16-13) opened the day with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-27, 22-25, 20-25) loss to Emerson. Boyer led RIC with 12 kills and was second with 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker Kalyn Archer (Warwick, RI) and senior outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI) each posted eight winners, while junior opposite April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI) led the Anchorwomen with 16 digs. Freshman setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) registered 29 assists.




Rhode Island College followed the defeat with a 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 25-17) victory over Gordon. It was the second win for RIC vs. the Fighting Scots this fall (3-0, Sept. 12). Boyer once again led the way with 17 kills, while Oberhelman was one off the pace to go along with a team-high 21 digs. Archer and junior outside hitter Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI) contributed 12 and 10 winners, respectively, while Ho chipped in with 26 assists.




The Anchorwomen ended the day in a five-set, 3-2 (20-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 12-15) loss to the hosts. Boyer (21), Heidel (13) and Oberhelman (11) led the way for the squad in kills. Ho had 41 assists, while Oberhelman (30 digs) and Heidel (five blocks) pitched in on defense.




In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will play at Wesleyan on Oct. 20.
