Westfield, MASophomore forward Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI) netted a hat trick, while junior defender Corey Carvalho (Dartmouth, MA) scored the game-winning goal and chipped in with an assist, as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team defeated Westfield State, 4-2, on Wednesday evening.


 The Anchormen snapped a two-game losing streak in the win as they improve to 6-7-2 overall. The Owls see their record fall to 6-7-1.

 RIC went into the half with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Costa tally in the 32nd minute. Junior midfielder Louis Tavares (East Providence, RI) picked up an assist on the goal.


The final 17:20 of regulation proved to be wild as the two clubs combined for five goals in that time span. Costa put RIC up by two on an assist by Carvalho in the 73rd minute. Carvalho scored his first collegiate goal, which was set up by junior midfielder Jose Ruiz (Providence, RI), just 2:29 later in the 76th minute to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage.

 Westfield State go on the board in the 78th minute on a Tim Parsons goal. Costa sealed the win with an unassisted marker in the 84th minute. WSC's Josh Stevens scored with just 29 seconds left to end the game.


RIC junior goalkeeper Helder Faustino (Warwick, RI) made five saves in the win (3-3-1). WSC netminder Jeff Pepoli stopped eight shots in a losing effort.


 Westfield State held the advantage in both shots (20-18) and corner kicks (11-2).


 In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at home against Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 24.
