Newton, MA-Sophomore attacker Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) scored six goals, while classmate attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) registered five goals and two assists, to lead the Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team to a 17-7 win over Lasell in the 2010 season-opener for the Anchorwomen.

The win for RIC (1-0) snapped a 13-game losing streak dating back to March 19, 2009. The Anchorwomen held the advantage in shots (37-29), ground balls (53-38) and draw controls (16-9). Lasell (3-3) sees a three-game winning streak come to an end in the loss.




Voyer added nine ground balls, while Drolet picked up six loose balls. Junior attacker Suany Almonte (Warwick, RI) and freshman midfielder Haley Lattinville (North Kingstown, RI) rounded out the RIC scoring with three goals apiece. Freshman midfielder Libby Lazar (Wakefield, RI) had five draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The Anchorwomen dominated the first half, scoring the first four goals, and after Lasell found the back of the net, rattled off seven more tallies en route to a 12-2 halftime lead. RIC outshot the Lasers, 27-14, and picked up 15 more ground balls (32-17) over the first 30 minutes.




Lasell played RIC even, 5-5, over the final 30 minutes, but could not come back from the first half damage.




RIC freshman goalkeeper Kerri Montgomery (Franklin, MA) made 11 saves to earn her first collegiate win (1-0). Lasell junior Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) made 14 stops in a losing effort (2-3). The Lasers were led offensively by junior midfielder Tina Canavan’s (Stonington, CT) three goals.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Westfield State on Tuesday, March 23.
