The Corsairs raise their overall record to 15-11 and their Little East mark to 5-3. RIC, which lost a heartbreaker for the second straight day, drops to 17-9 and 6-2 in league action. The Anchormen has four of their last five ballgames.

Rhode Island College senior reliever Bobby Venditto (Cranston, RI) threw a great game, after being called upon with only one down and runners on first and second in the top of the first. He hurled eight strong innings, surrendering only two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four, in a losing effort (2-1).

UMass Dartmouth senior starter Adam Gustafson (Dighton, MA) pitched six innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, without factoring in the decision. Sophomore reliever Pat Lavey (Cranston, RI) picked up the win (3-1), allowing just one hit, while striking out four, in three innings of solid work.

Ryan went 3-for-5, while Talis went 2-for-5. Both players scored a run, registered two RBI and a double. Junior first baseman Anthony Fiorita (North Reading, MA) also contributed two RBI.

RIC junior left fielder Ronnie Bracchi (Wappinger Falls, NY) went 2-for-4 and joined classmate designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) and senior first baseman Tim Schabowski (Pascoag, RI) as the Anchormen with a pair of RBI.

The Corsairs pasted RIC sophomore starter Mike DeWald (Hope Valley, RI) for five runs on five hits in the first inning, forcing RIC Head Coach Scott Virgulak to bring on Venditto. Senior center fielder Jeff Macchi (Franklin, MA) doubled in the game’s first run and Talis followed with an RBI ground out. Fiorita did the most damage with a two-run single.

The resilient Anchormen bounced back with three runs in the home half of the first as Levesque brought in two with a double and Schabowski followed with an RBI single.

RIC added another in the third as Bracchi brought in sophomore third baseman J.P. Stone (Narragansett, RI ) with an RBI single to left. UMD increased its lead to 6-4 as freshman right fielder Nick Fuller (Acushnet, MA) came home as Macchi grounded into a bases loaded 5-4-3 double play in the fourth.

The Anchormen tied the game, 6-6, in the fifth as Schabowski brought in Stone as part of an RBI ground out and Bracchi plated senior center fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, RI) with a single up the middle.

RIC went ahead for the first time, 7-6, in the sixth on freshman right fielder Kevin Carey’s (Wakefield, RI) sacrifice fly to deep right field.

Venditto came out for the ninth and gave up a bloop single to sophomore third baseman John Granahan (Hanover, MA). After Macchi flew out, Talis laced a perfectly placed double down the right field line to bring in the tying run and moved up to third on the throw. Venditto gave way to junior reliever Matt Thadeio (West Greenwich, RI), but Ryan hit the first pitch he saw into left center field to plate what proved to be the game-winning run.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Worcester State tomorrow afternoon in a battle of the seventh-ranked teams in New England.
