RIC ANNOUNCES SPRING MVPs

North Kingstown, RI-Rhode Island College held its annual spring banquet at the Quonset Point Officerís Club on Monday evening. Each sport handed out its Most Valuable Player Awards.

BASEBALL

Junior pitcher/designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) was named the baseball teamís MVP. He has played in 30 games, starting 29 of them. Levesque is batting .395 with 29 runs scored, 15 doubles, seven home runs, 35 RBI and one stolen base. He has posted 83 total bases and owns a .697 slugging percentage, a .434 on-base percentage and an .867 fielding percentage. As a pitcher, he has appeared in six games, starting five of them. Levesque is 3-1 with a 1.49 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched. He also recorded one save. Levesque was also selected as the teamís MVP in 2009.

 

SOFTBALL

Junior shortstop Donielle Mattoon (Coventry, RI) was named the softball team's MVP. She has played in 35 games, starting all of them. Mattoon is batting .442 with 32 runs scored, 46 hits, 13 doubles, four home runs, 26 RBI, 71 total bases and four stolen bases. She owns a .683 slugging percentage, a .464 on-base percentage and a .950 fielding percentage. Mattoon was also selected as the teamís MVP in 2009.

 

MENíS GOLF

Junior Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA) was named the golf team's MVP. He competed in 17 contests this season and averaged a score of 81.3. He competed in six matches in the fall, averaging a score of 78.9, while averaging an 83.4 in all six contests during the spring. He shot a season-low score of 74 during second round play at the RIC Invitational on Oct. 9.

 

WOMENíS LACROSSE

Sophomore attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) was named the womenís lacrosse teamís MVP. She played in 13 games, starting all of them. She had team-highs of 43 goals, seven assists and 50 points to go along with 94 shots, 24 ground balls, 18 draw controls and four caused turnovers.

 

MENíS TENNIS

Junior Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) was named the menís tennis teamís MVP. He is 11-3 (.786) at No. 2 singles and 9-5 (.643) at No. 2 doubles for a total of 15.5 points. He leads the team in points as well as singles and doubles victories.

 

MENíS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Freshman George NíTow (Providence, RI) was named the menís outdoor track & field teamís MVP. He earned All-New England honors in the 400m, placing third (49.17). N'Tow earned N.E. Alliance honors in the 400m, placing second (49.43) and as a part of the 4x400m relay that finished second (3:28.58) at the Alliance Championships on April 24. He also finished tenth in ninth in the 200m (23.29). NíTow placed third in the 400m (50.95) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. He placed sixth in the 800m (2:04.66) at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. NíTow placed first in the 400m (49.66) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3. NíTow was also selected as the indoor teamís MVP in 2009-10.

 

WOMENíS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Junior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) was named the womenís outdoor track & field teamís MVP. She earned All-New England honors in the 400m hurdles (1:06.79) with an eighth place finish. DiBlasi earned N.E. Alliance honors in both the 100m hurdles (16.00) and 400m hurdles (67.80) with third and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the Alliance Championships on April 24. She also placed ninth in the 4x100m (55.02) and sixth in the 4x400m (4:22.84) relays. DiBlasi placed second in the 100m hurdles (15.80) and second in the 400m hurdles (1:06.96) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. She placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.34) and 11th in the 800m (2:38.70) at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. DiBlasi placed first in the 100m hurdles (16.14) and fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:11.27) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3. She placed first in the 400m hurdles (1:09.04) and third in the 100m hurdles (16.55) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 27. DiBlasi was also selected as the indoor teamís MVP in 2009-10.
