Providence, RI—Seniors Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) and Ray Moore (Wrentham, MA) notched back-to-back pins to help secure a 31-9 win for the Rhode Island College wrestling team over WPI on Wednesday night at The Murray Center.

 Senior Joe Manley

The Anchormen, ranked No. 27 in the nation and fourth in New England, stay undefeated in dual action as they raise their overall record to 7-0 and 4-0 vs. New England Wrestling Association opponents. WPI remains winless, dropping to 0-9 overall and 0-8 against NEWA foes.

Rhode Island College was without its starters at 125 and 133 lbs. and the Engineers picked up two early wins as senior Carl Anderson (Billerica, MA) and freshman Dan Gilman (Framingham, MA) each earned three-point decisions.

RIC quickly bounced back with a pair of technical fall victories by sophomore Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) and junior captain Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) at 141 and 149 lbs. to give the hosts a 10-9 lead.

Junior Tyler Howe’s (Danbury, CT) takedown in the first period was enough to earn a 2-1 win at 157 lbs., but that would be the last time a WPI wrestler would raise his hand after a match on the night.

After junior Brendan Guarino (Lodi, NJ) earned a 6-2 win at 165 lbs., Manley pinned his opponent in just 29 seconds. Moore followed with the clincher, a win by fall at 1:50 at 184 lbs.

 Senior Ray Moore

After both clubs elected to skip the 197 lbs. match, RIC freshman Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) iced the evening with a pin of his own at heavyweight.
