Providence, RI-Rhode Island College senior guard Jake Grimes (Providence, RI) has been selected to play in the New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Div. III Senior All-Star Game on Sunday, April 18 at Babson College. All proceeds from the game will benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign.


The game will be held at Staake Gymnasium on the campus of Babson in Wellesley, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and admission is free.




Grimes was named First Team All-Little East and to the league’s All-Defensive Team as a senior in 2009-10. He played in 30 games, starting 26 of them. Grimes averaged 14.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.7 blocks and 1.6 steals per game. He ranked first on the team in points and steals, was second in blocks, while ranking third in both assists and total rebounds. Grimes, who was also in consideration for LEC Player of the Year, registered season-highs of 30 points at Eastern Connecticut on Dec. 5, nine rebounds vs. UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 26, seven assists at UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 16 and four steals and two blocks on multiple occasions.


He was named the team’s MVP and was the LEC Player of the Week on one occasion this season. Grimes and Johnson & Wales’ Lamonte Thomas received the Steve McDonald Award, signifying them as the Men’s Co-Players of the Year (Div. III) at the annual Cox Sports R.I. Basketball Media Awards Luncheon on March 29.
